"(W)e need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime. We all know the litany of his offenses. He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation. ...And now he is miscalculating America s response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction. That is why the world, through the United Nations Security Council, has spoken with one voice, demanding that Iraq disclose its weapons programs and disarm. So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real, but it is not new. It has been with us since the end of the Persian Gulf War." -- John Kerry, Jan 23, 2003

Obama takes aim at Hillary's 'pattern' of lies

"Clinton's fantastic invention of a sniper-raked landing is only one in a growing list of instances in which she has exaggerated her role as first lady, particularly with respect to domestic policy," a scorching campaign memo said in one of the harshest broadsides to date. In other developments yesterday: * A new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll found Clinton's approval rating has sunk to 37 percent - the lowest of the presidential campaign and the lowest since 2001. * Uncommitted superdelegates told The Post that the former first lady's false claims about what happened in Bosnia would be a factor in deciding who they would eventually support. * One of the Marines' most successful snipers, retired Staff Sgt. Jack Coughlin who has over 60 "kills," said, "She doesn't care about our service members - that's the feeling that gives me." * Clinton's most prominent military supporter, retired Gen. Wesley Clark, tried to downplay the controversy, saying that too much is being made of it and sometimes people make mistakes. In attacking Clinton's record, Obama's campaign picked apart two specific claims by Clinton, that she had created the State Children's Health Insurance Program and helped to pass the Family and Medical Leave Act.
