"What is at stake is how to answer the potential threat Iraq represents with the risk of proliferation of WMD. Baghdad's regime did use such weapons in the past. Today, a number of evidences may lead to think that, over the past four years, in the absence of international inspectors, this country has continued armament programs." -- Jacques Chirac, October 16, 2002

Obama stands by his pre-emptive strike
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) stood by his pre-emptive strike on Sen. Hillary Clinton over an online column that said she was sitting on “scandalous” information about him, saying today that “our campaign will not tolerate this type of slime politics.”“I really value my reputation and my character and my family,” Obama told reporters before a campaign appearance here. “In the era of the blogosphere, we have seen what happened with John McCain in 2000, what happened with John Kerry in 2004. If you don’t get on this stuff quickly, then it starts drifting around, and that is not something I am going to accept.”
