Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said Tuesday that Hillary Clinton's high negative poll ratings would make her unable to win a mandate for change, should she win the general election next year.The Illinois senator said Clinton, the party's national front-runner, would not bring as many Republicans and independent voters to the Democratic ticket as he would because a higher percentage of Americans view Clinton negatively.

"Now what we know is that that will not happen with Senator Clinton. That's guaranteed," he added.Obama has recently overtaken Clinton in polls of Democrats likely to attend the Jan. 3 caucuses, scheduled to launch the 2008 nominating sequence.However, Clinton and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards are within striking distance with roughly four weeks until the caucuses."Every Democratic nominee that has been through the Republican attack machine has wound up with high negatives," Clinton campaign spokesman Mo Elleithee said.
