Hillary Clinton the combat veteran, a role in the race we thought had been reserved for Sen. John McCain, her potential Republican rival. The inexplicable blunder -- desperation? delusion? disregard for the truth? -- of Mrs. Clinton claiming she had landed in Bosnia under sniper fire a dozen years ago has her running for president as a spin doctor and damage control expert, as if there weren't more than enough of them already. How does she explain her way out of such a statement?This one is so bad, in fact, that Mrs. Clinton the comedian has made a late entrance into the race."I made a mistake," she said Tuesday. "That happens. It proves I'm human, which, you know, for some people is a revelation."It's quite telling that such a perpetually on-message candidate like Mrs. Clinton is trying to joke her way out of what might be seen as a gaffe, albeit a potentially serious one, within her own campaign but as nothing short of a lie within rival quarters.Just imagine the TV ads that Mr. McCain, or even Sen.
