Ferraro's folly, Clinton's lie
There was a tissue of truth to what Geraldine Ferraro told a California newspaper last week about Barack Obama. His race is certainly a key part of his political persona."If Obama was a White man," Ferraro said, "he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman of any color, he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept."

If it is the happy good fortune of mere complexion that can make a candidate formidable, why is Obama the first and only Black man to be a viable contender for the White House?
