In that spirit, before I go make a pumpkin pie and stuff a turkey, I have to take issue with one of my colleagues.Sun-Times syndicated columnist Robert Novak did what he does best this week. He stirred up yet another political storm on Sunday when he reported "agents of Sen. Hillary Clinton are spreading the word in Democratic circles that she has scandalous information about her principal opponent for the presidential nomination, Sen. Barack Obama, but has decided not to use it."Novak's item was just 123 words long, but it raised a whole host of questions, the big one being exactly WHAT scandalous information? "The nature of the alleged scandal was not disclosed," wrote Novak.Obama's people immediately responded that they were being Swift-boated, a reference to the scurrilous attacks on the Vietnam war record of Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) in 2004 by a crowd known as Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.The Clinton campaign returned fire, denying they had any damaging information on Obama, denouncing Novak's claims as an attempt to put Democrats at each other's throats and decrying that Obama would buy into it.
