Clinton's themes rejected in Iowa
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's central campaign themes - experience, electability and female appeal - were largely rejected by Iowa caucus-goers last night, a survey of voter opinions found. Clinton was banking on women, who comprised the majority of the Democratic turnout, but they favored victorious Sen. Barack Obama, 35 percent to 30 percent.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's central campaign themes - experience, electability and female appeal - were largely rejected by Iowa caucus-goers last night, a survey of voter opinions found. Clinton was banking on women, who comprised the majority of the Democratic turnout, but they favored victorious Sen. Barack Obama, 35 percent to 30 percent. Obama was ahead among almost every subsection the poll looked at, including younger voters, whom he heavily targeted, and those focused on bringing "change." About a fifth of the Democratic caucus-goers were under the age of 30, the survey showed. That's about double the number of voters in that age range who have typically turned out for the Iowa event in the past. More than half of those voters listed Obama as their first choice, according the survey. Just 10 percent of the younger voters went for Clinton, who was backed by 45 percent of senior voters over age 65. Nearly 60 percent of overall voters said they were first-time caucus-goers. Obama led there as well.
