The former U.S. president, who has been crisscrossing Iowa on campaign stops for Hillary Clinton, made an impromptu java stop visit Thursday morning at the local Starbucks on Locust Street in downtown Des Moines. He was immediately surrounded by reporters from a handful of media outlets, including CanWest News Service, who were also getting their morning caffeine fix. The former president dismissed the suggestion it was a mistake for Hillary Clinton to contest the Iowa caucuses, where she has struggled to maintain a lead over rivals Barack Obama and John Edwards. "I think she needed to show she wasn't afraid to compete everywhere," Bill Clinton said. "I'm pleased that she did."A Zogby poll released Thursday morning showed Hillary Clinton in third place behind both Obama and Edwards, the former North Carolina senator. The poll showed Obama with 31 per cent support to 27 for Edwards and 24 for Hillary Clinton.
